Online love

December 6th, 2007 by SM (Cairo, Egypt) · 10 Comments

This is a short fantasy story that I wrote. Feel free to share with me what you think about it.
- Sherin

Nora thought she finally found love when she met John by coincidence online. This young British man is not only smart, witty but also single, sexy, hot, ambitious, handsome and rich! He’s just got it all! Moreover, John would tell this beautiful Moroccan woman, who is 30 years old, that he is so much in love with her. What more could she ask for after long years of loneliness? It seems that she finally has a chance to love and be loved. At least this is what she is convinced of. His words sound to her ears very sincere, too sincere that she cannot afford not to believe him. In just three months time, John had got into Nora’s deepest secrets, he knew almost everything about her. It was hard for her not to totally be head over heals with this sexy young man who can see right through her soul even though they have never met in real life! Somehow, John could easily move her and touch her feelings so deeply. He has this capability of saying all the right things a woman is eager to hear and at the right time. Words of love, passion, affection and even commitment. Words about their long and happy future together. So far, those were only words, yet Nora was impressed and intrigued by her “online lover”. However, she still thinks this is too good to be true. And even though, he said all the right things and even though she was so much high in the seventh sky floating on her pink cloud, something in her little heart did not feel right about all of this. She was suspicious about this quick love! An online love? Na, no way! Does it really exist? She’s all puzzled, what would a young successful sexy good looking man like John want from a very ordinary woman like Nora, who is 3 years older than him, who is struggling for her daily life and who is coming from a totally different culture than his? Will the west ever meet the east? Is it just a challenging game for him? Is it about sex? Except that someone like John, can have sex anytime and anywhere he likes! Is this love or just lust? Nora is even more confused than ever. An overwhelming feeling of love, infatuation, confusion and doubt is playing with her naïve innocent heart. And even though, women do have a sixth sense, a kind of radar to detect false feelings from real ones, still she is willing to take a chance by accepting to play this dangerous game. Can’t you see that she is too happy of this illusion of love that her mind quickly created for her? She is so ready to hear his words and convince herself that she is madly falling in love with someone she did not even meet face to face! “I’ve got mail”, was one kind of a movie, so she thinks. Actually, if an online love turned to real love to Meg Ryan, it could as well happen to her! After all, she’s more beautiful than Meg Ryan and John is far sexier than Tom Hanks.

It’s strange! It seems that one is so quick to observe and believe the positive when seeking people online, when in real life, in person, we all seem to find the negatives in each other!

    Hi Brad,

hmmm, interesting thought! I would rather think of the realistic aspects of life, trying to see the full half of the glass ;)

    Have a nice day,

    Sherin.
