Shahinaz story on Greek Tv

December 19th, 2007 by MP (Athens, Greece) · 6 Comments

In Egypt, blogging has evolved within the past years to a shaper of the political agenda. Hundreds of Egyptian bloggers are trying to raise their voices of opposition via the internet, eluding government’ s censorship and embarrasing the regime. One of them, 29 years old Shahinaz Abdel Ibrahim Salam spoke in the camera of NET, about her fight for the human rights in Egypt.

Her pseudonym in the blogosphere is Wahda Masrya, that is to say, “Egyptian woman”. 29 years old Shahinaz fights for the release of her friend Abdel Kareem..the first Egyptian blogger, who has been prosecuted, because he simply wrote his beliefs on the internet. (shahinaz cue)

Her fame has exceeded by far the limits of internet. Shahinaz has made her choice, not to obey in the laws of silence. For the last two years, she denounces in her blog, the violation of human rights in Egypt. (Shahinaz cue)

Like Shahinaz, there are about 1000 bloggers in Egypt who use the internet in order to sensitize public opinion, to organise demonstrations and many times to shape the political agenda.

Thanks to these bloggers, the video of shame, with the sexual abuse of a driver in a police station of Cairo one year ago, made worldwide headlines. (Shahinaz cue)

Being in the opposition resembles with suicide, reveals Shahinaz.  A special unit in the Egyptian police watches all bloggers and whatever they publish in their web pages. Despite the threats and the dangers, the young Egyptian has always with her, her camera… and is hoping…(Shahinaz the end).
