Photos of the Year 2007 - Unicef
In these photos, the protagonists are mainly children, in developing societies. The first reward was granted to the photographer Stephanie Sinclair, who snapped with her camera one under-age Afghan, saying goodbye to her innocence.
Ghulam is eleven years old and her future spouse is in his forties. She was forced to be engaged because her parents needed money. The underage bride from Afghanistan will not fulfill her dream to become schoolteacher. Nevertheless, she became the main character in the Unicef photo of the year.
Among other astonishing pictures of the year, those which portray the inhuman reality of child labor in Bangladesh. According to Unicef, 4.7 million children between five and 14 years of age are involved in child labor in that country.

Thanks for posting these MP - in the end-of-year press there are always photo features that aim to sum up the year from our perspective on what’s been going on ‘at home and abroad’, but they’re not often dedicated to issues such as those highlighted by Unicef.

It’s not just a punch in the stomach, it’s a punch in the heart… it’s really sad to see children suffering instead of enjoying their age and protected.
