Today is a tragic day for the world and for all those who support democracy, freedom and human rights. Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s opposition leader, was shot in the neck today before being bombed in a suicidal attack, 2 weeks before the elections. 20 were killed and many injured in this attack. Another sad bloody page in the history of democracy. Pakistan is on the edge of a turmoil. This bad indicent reminds me of the assassination of the previous Egyptian President, Anwar Al Sadat, visionary of his era and fox of the desert as I like to call him. Sadat was also shot by extremists in the begining of the 80’s, a price he had to pay for the establishing of peace with Israel. A peace that cost him his life and cost Egypt the boycott of Arab countries at this time. It is sad but true!
What terrorists do not seem to realize is that they cannot and will not silent the living and eternal voices of democracy and peace supporters in the world. Killing is not a solution and will never be. Are we in the 21st century or dark ages?
My heart is with Bhutto’s family and all of her supporters. For more on Benazir Bhutto, please read the BBC below link.
