Scientists breathe life into “dead” heart

January 14th, 2008 by MP (Athens, Greece) · 2 Comments

Some already speak about the Holy Grail of the medical research. For others, it is a reminder of the methods used by doctor Frankenstein. American scientists have succeeded in bringing a dead heart back to life. The first experiments took place in the University of Minnesota. Researchers removed all the cells from the dead heart of a rat, leaving only the organic proteins. The next step was to insert stem cells, taken from a newborn mouse. Four days later, the spectacular results left them speechless. Not only did the heart beat again, but also it started to pump blood, as well. Researchers are optimistic that this technique could lead to ways of synthesising bespoke tissues, like pancreas, kidneys and liver. But before this method leads in building human hearts and other organs, it will take at least 10 years. More details in the following address.

Thanks again for another beautiful article! I wish this new technique becomes a new hope for those who have a “dead heart” problem. I wish scientists find a technique to cure “cruel” hearts, “intolerant and fanatic” hearts as well :)
