The Big - Bucks deal

January 16th, 2008 by MP (Athens, Greece) · No Comments

George Bush’s visit in the Middle East has ended with wishes for peace, threats against Iran and calls for cheap oil.
Those who were speaking about a “tourist tour” seem to have been confirmed. However, his journey had an aspect for which White House is celebrating. George Bush bided farewell to the Middle East, with very concrete contracts of arms sales in his baggage.

Although, he went to the region, with a plea to bring democratisation and peace, he was the one to undermine it. In his rhetoric, the Iranian threat dominated the peace initiative. The warnings against Tehran could be heard in every Persian Gulf country that the Air Force 1 landed. In any case, Washington’s aim was the creation of a common front against Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Yet, the end justifies the means. And in this case, the means are the big arms deal, worth 20 billion dollars, which he signed with the king of Saudi Arabia.
