Moody Monday…

January 21st, 2008 by MP (Athens, Greece) · 4 Comments

Did you wake up today, feeling crabby and out of spirits? Even if you had wished to be Sunday, it is only Monday, day one of an exhausting week. And it is not starting good. If you forgot to buy cereals for your breakfast, if you found no milk in the fridge, if there were numerous bills awaiting for you in your mailbox, your car had a break down, were late at work, your boss gave you a lecture, received an e-mail from your boyfriend, dumping you.

That’s enough. You would already know that today was the most depressing day of the year. If you want scientific proof for that, psychologist Cliff Arnall of Cardiff University has it. The professor from Wales suggests that 21st of January is the worst day of the year. He reached this conclusion after taking several factors into account.

  1. The weather at this time is lousy.
  2. All that’s left today of Christmas is bills, bills, bills.
  3. We are moody every time we realise our failed New Year resolutions.
  4. And at the same time desparate, because we need to have something to look forward to.

Unfortunately, the next holiday is months away. Professor Arnall has a point. But, please let me know, was it really so bad for you?

I don’t feel depressed but sad and I know the reason. However, I took a decision this morning about this issue which was bothering me and feel reliefed now. I am even confident that in the next few days I will be forgetting all about it !!! Also, am following MD advice and eating “dark chocolate” :) ;)
