I was watching one of the movies in the cinema which I thought would be a good movie. The reality is I went through a nightmare. Not only the movie was terrible but the whole idea of the film was simplistic and naive! Not to mention that the scenario was kind of “street talk” scenario. You know, it is one of those movies where the author considers his audience nothing but a bunch of naive chairs sitting on probably “smarter” chairs! Anyway, usually when you go watch a movie in most of the cinemas in Egypt, they show you tons of publicities about other movies in particular American films. This can take almost from 20 to 30 minutes of ads! What really attracted my attention and in a way bothered me, was the lady sitting next to me who brought her very young daughter with her at a late hour. As usual and as curious as I am, I could not shut my mouth up and engaged myself in a conversation with the mother, asking her about the age of her lovely daughter, who turned to be only 3 years old. I was still wondering why is she bringing a 3 years old kid to a 10 pm to midnight film? Shouldn’t she be in bed right now? What upset me the most was that this daughter had to see very bloody as well as hot adult scenes of the bits and pieces of the American movies. I could see that with each scream or violent or bloody scene in the ad, the kid would crisp her hands and the mother herself is frightened! When I asked the mother, aren’t those scenes too violent for her kid, she simply replied that she thought that in a comdey film they would not show violent nor bloody scenes in the ads!

Yes, the age does matter. Depends on the parents. Maybe exposure with good parent conversation is better than hiding the subjects. Also, in the USA the previews and ads at the beginning of movies have become such an issue that now many of the theaters are posting the real movie times also, to avoid this pre-movie garbage.

Hi Brad,
Thanks a lot for your comment. It is interesting for me to know that in the States you post the real time of the actual movie! It gives one a chance to avoid or attend the ads!
Have a good day,
Sherin.
