90 seconds of horror
In the beginning, the video is misleading… It reminds you of a typical mineral water TV ad. But suddenly viewers are realizing the «harsh reality», when they «enter» a virtual interrogation room. The torture scene showing simulated «water boarding», in slow movement… Detainees tied to a board face-up and tilted backwards. Water is poured over the face and into breathing passages to simulate drowning. The difference is that in Guantanamo Bay this is not simulated… .
This video is part of an Amnesty International campaign to outlaw the controversial interrogation practice. The CIA has admitted carrying out the treatment on at least three al-Qaeda suspects – but says that no water boarding has been carried out since 2003. A month ago, in the name of the war on terror, USA President Bush has vetoed legislation brought forward by Democrats, which would ban the CIA from using waterboarding, mock executions and other harsh interrogation methods. The US claims water boarding is an “enhanced” interrogation technique. From May 9th, the ad is set to run across Britain in 50 cinemas which support the Amnesty International message. “You cannot turn away your eyes from horror when it’s a reality”. Watch it….
