Danes… the champions of happiness!

July 4th, 2008 by MP (Athens, Greece) · No Comments

happiness

The recipe for the magic filter of happiness is simple: economic prosperity, political freedom, equality. The streets of Denmark are full of the happiest persons on earth. According to the latest World Values Survey published by the United States National Science Foundation, Danes are the unquestionable champions of happiness.  Money does not buy happiness… This is the case of Puerto Rico and Colombia which are found to be the second and third happiest countries in the world. 6 European countries, including Iceland, Switzerland,  Ireland, the Netherlands and Canada are among the 10 happiest. The study also found that all countries at the bottom of the list struggle with widespread poverty or authoritarian governments. For example, with inflation rate 160.000%, happiness can evaporate….. Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe, recently the epicentre of controversial presidential election marred by violence, is found to be the most unhappy country of the world. Iraqis feel miserable; so do the citizens of Armenia, Belarus and Albania. Countries, such as the United States, England and France are ranked behind Austria, Switzerland and Canada.  Greece is classified in the 58th place in a total of 97. Despite the food crisis, the economic recession and oil prices, researchers conclude that the world is today much happier than 20 years ago.
