Intercultural dialogue in Brussels: NewsLab presentation

November 17th, 2008 by LM (Beirut, Lebanon) · 2 Comments

Sondès Ben Khalifa and Françoise Loewert, NewsLab women journalists’ blog
• Creation of ‘NewsLab’: Bring together some 20 women from Mediterranean base, train them in new media, create a joint blog. Enables them to express views clearly, particularly for those who report in repressive regimes.
• Blogging, Tunisia, more and more young people are writing. Vitality of inter cultural dialogue provides grounds for optimism.
• Able to help each other without barriers or limitations, gave rise to the blog, united by conviction to open ourselves to others. Can replace traditional media and help young women to share their experiences. Don’t have to go via officially organized channels. Enables direct contact.
• A number of prejudices the women held were eradicated thanks to the blog. They were able to break down barriers, humbled in the light of what they didn’t understand.
• Need more and more to redefine diversity dialogue and development dialogue. Site for ongoing dialogue between all different ethnic backgrounds. It is key to note the reciprocity between diversity and dialogue.
• It is important to build lasting networks.
